Computer checks from Checkomatic are pre-printed laser checks designed to work with your accounting software. You load them into your laser or inkjet printer, run your payment batch from QuickBooks, Sage, Quicken, or whichever platform you use, and the software fills in the check details. Routing number, account number, payee, amount, memo, everything gets printed at the time of each run. We've been manufacturing computer check paper for over 25 years, and we ship directly from our own facility. That's why our prices are significantly lower than what Intuit, your bank, or an office supply chain charges for the same product.
What Is a Computer Check?
A computer check is a pre-printed check form you run through a standard office printer. Unlike manual checks you fill out by hand, computer checks are formatted to receive printed data from your accounting software. The fixed elements, your company name, bank name, routing number, account number, and security features, are pre-printed on the paper. The variable elements, payee name, date, dollar amount, and MICR line, get printed at the time of each payment run.
The term "computer check" covers the same product as "laser check," "laser business check," and "computer check paper." They're all referring to the same format: an 8.5" x 11" sheet that runs through a printer and comes out as a complete, bank-ready check.
Computer Check Formats Available at Checkomatic
The format you need depends entirely on what your accounting software outputs by default. Here's what we carry.
Computer Checks on Top
Check sits at the top of the page with two perforated voucher stubs below. This is the most common business check format and the default layout for QuickBooks, Quicken, and most other accounting platforms. Best suited for payroll, accounts payable, and general vendor payments where you want a stub record attached to each payment.
Computer Checks in the Middle
Check sits in the center of the sheet with one stub above and one below. Sage and several other platforms default to this layout. Works well for payments that need additional detail recorded on both stubs, accounts that need a stub on top for filing and one at the bottom for the payee.
Computer Checks on Bottom
Check sits at the base of the sheet with two stubs above it. Required for DacEasy, agFinance, Sage MAS 90, and other platforms that output check data to the lower third of the page. If your software defaults to bottom-format output and you've been ordering top-format checks, that's why you're getting alignment issues.
Computer Checks 3 on a Page
Three checks per sheet, no stubs. Most cost-efficient format for high-volume accounts payable operations. Best suited for businesses that track payments through their software rather than through physical stubs. Available in 20 color options with free logo printing.
Wallet Personal Computer Checks
Personal-sized checks compatible with QuickBooks and other software. Compact wallet format with perforated stubs for recordkeeping. Best for sole proprietors, freelancers, and home business owners who use QuickBooks but don't need a full voucher check format.
Computer Check Paper: What You Need Before You Print
Three things are required to print computer checks correctly. First, check printing software, QuickBooks, Sage, Quicken, Xero, or any other platform that handles MICR output. Second, MICR toner in your printer. Standard toner doesn't carry the magnetic properties that bank readers scan on the MICR line, and checks printed without it can be rejected. Third, checks ordered in the format your software outputs. If your software prints in middle format and you've ordered on-top checks, nothing will align.
Once those three things are matched up, printing is straightforward. Most alignment problems come down to three settings: page scaling (should be off, not "fit to page"), paper size (Letter, not A4), and format match between your software output and your check format. If alignment is slightly off after those checks, most accounting software has an alignment wizard under print preferences that adjusts in fractions of an inch.
Custom Computer Checks With Your Business Logo
Every computer check at Checkomatic is printed to your specifications. Your company name, address, bank name, bank address, routing number, account number, and starting check number all go on before it ships. Black and white logo printing is free on every order. Color logo printing is available for a small additional fee. You can also add an extra signature line for dual-authorization requirements. Choose from 20 background colors across three texture styles: diamond, marble, and prismatic.
Security Features on Every Business Computer Check
Every sheet includes chemically sensitive paper that reacts visibly to check washing attempts, coin-reactive ink that changes color when tampered with, heat-sensitive ink, a visible watermark, microprint border lines that break down under copier resolution, invisible fluorescent fibers embedded in the paper, and a security warning box. High-security upgrade is available for an additional three cents per check and adds holograms and enhanced microprinting for accounts with elevated fraud risk. All formats meet and exceed American Bankers Association specifications and are accepted at every US bank and financial institution.
Business Computer Checks vs Manual Business Checks
Computer checks are the right choice when your business processes payments through accounting software and wants to reduce manual data entry errors. The software handles the math, the formatting, and the MICR output. You load the paper and run the batch.
Manual business checks are the better choice when your team writes checks in the field, you don't use accounting software, or your payment volume is low enough that handwriting is practical. For everything else, computer checks save time, reduce errors, and produce a cleaner paper trail.
If you need to cover multiple bank accounts with a single check stock, blank checks are worth considering as well. Need envelopes to mail your computer checks? We stock double window check envelopes sized for every computer check format we sell.
